PARIS (Thomson Financial) - Share prices were higher in early afternoon trade, with talk of a hefty capital injection for US bank Merrill Lynch helping to ease concerns over the banking sector and a potential credit crunch, dealers said. At 1.20 pm the CAC-40 index was up 76.14 points or 1.38 pct at 5,587.59, and the SBF 120 was up 53.37 or 1.34 pct at 4,037.67. On the Matif, December CAC-40 futures were trading at 5,591.00. The euro was quoted at 1.4373 usd compared to 1.4339 usd late yesterday. "Every time a sovereign fund takes a stake in a major bank, the market starts to think the entire banking sector is going to be saved by emerging economies, and will continue to lend to finance the economy," a local dealer commented. Stocks throughout the Paris market rebounded, with industrials stocks among the leaders, as investors set aside economic concerns for the day.
