| PBL seeks order to hold shareholder meeting
PUBLISHING and Broadcasting Ltd (PBL) will today seek a court order to convene a meeting of shareholders to consider its demerger proposal. PBL's application will be considered by Justice Lindgren of the Federal Court of Australia at 3pm AEST. The hearing had been due to take place on Monday but PBL had it delayed while the company considered the implications of proposed federal government changes to the tax consolidation regime, announced last Friday. Minister for Revenue and Assistant Treasurer Peter Dutton has since clarified that announcement, saying the changes will not apply to listed entities undertaking corporate action by takeover bid or schemes of arrangement announced before October 13. PBL announced its proposed demerger by schemes of arrangement in May.

21 Killed in Iran's Heaviest Snowstorm in a Decade
At least 21 people have been killed and 88 others injured ... as a result of heavy snow," state-run radio reported. "Some died of the severe cold, some were buried under avalanches and others died after their cars overturned on snow-covered roads." The cold weather has caused problems for residents in western Iran, with about a dozen towns suffering from gas cuts due to a surge in demand and a cut in gas exports from Turkmenistan. Government officials have urged citizens to reduce their notoriously high consumption of gas to ensure there are no further cuts or shortages. Authorities have also urged Iranians to cancel unnecessary travel and warned that the snowfall would continue in the coming days. .
SWAT officers invade home, take 11-year-old at gunpoint
This apparently did not go over well with one of the paramedics and they started getting aggravated at Tom for not letting them have their way," a family acquaintance told WND. "The paramedics were not at all respectful of Tom's decision, nor did they act in a manner we would expect from professional paramedics," the acquaintance said. So the ambulance crew, who also could not be reached by WND, called police, only to be told the decision was up to the Shiflett familiy. The paramedics then called the sheriff's office, and officers responded to the home, and were told everyone was being cared for. Then the next day, Friday, social services workers appeared at the door and demanded to talk with John "in private." They were so persistent Tom ended up having to get John out of the bathtub he was just soaking in, to bring him to the front porch where the social workers could see him, the family reported.
ARMENIA, AZERBAIJAN MULL CFE TREATY WITHDRAWAL IN YEAR OF "MANY ...
The Russian move took effect in mid-December. Since the treaty contains no provision for suspension, Moscows actions effectively mark its withdrawal from the CFE regime. Spain, which held the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europes rotating chairmanship in 2007, has urged Russia to reconsider its decision. "The loss of the CFE system of limitations, information and verification would be detrimental to all and could have security implications for all of Europe," Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos wrote in a statement issued shortly after the Russian moratorium entered into force. "No steps should be taken that could undermine the viability of the CFE regime, or put this landmark regime at risk," Moratinos added, before urging other CFE states to do "everything they can" to preserve the treaty.
More Obama substance!

The mighty Hillary juggernaut closes its vise-like grip on the post of Senate Majority Leader. A Concord Monitor poll shows the same weakness as last week's survey from Iowa. RCP summarizes: Just like in Iowa, Hillary loses to Rudy and McCain but beats Romney. And just like in Iowa, Obama beats them all. Edwards doesn't run as strong in New Hampshire as in Iowa - no surprise there - but he still manages a dead heat against McCain and Giuliani and handily beats Romney. So even though Hillary is clinging to a lead at the top of the field, she's once again giving off the "unelectable" vibe in comparison to her two most serious primary challengers.
Response to "Endorsing Ron Paul"
The $18 million Ron Paul raised in the 4th quarter, breaking all fundraising records without lifting a finger, is because "some" Americans do care about truth and peace.
