Clinton Makes Final Push

Clinton was exuding confidence with Strickland at her side.

"I look forward, as the nominee, to campaigning with him in Ohio," said Clinton. "We're going to win Ohio and I believe that we're going to win a lot of states that haven't been as friendly a territory to Democratic presidential candidates in the last several years."

Making her case to about 300 people at a high school in Clinton, the former first lady made it clear her role in the White House was one of a player.

"I was privileged to be a part of a lot of the decisions we made," said Clinton.

Clinton drew large, enthusiastic crowds throughout the day. More than 1,000 cheering backers jammed the River Center in Dubuque to hear her standard stump speech, with Strickland at her side.

Hillary in Arkansas

What I want to know is, why don't Democrats start saying things like, "This is what we're going to do and this is why we're doing it." There is a lot of criticism that the Democrats are the party of no ideas. Often times I have to agree with that. Are we too busy trying to avoid the Howard Dean "woo-hoo" moments? Are we worried we'll turn off moderates?

Outsourcing: Where’s Uncle Sam?

They can drive down the income for huge swaths of the middle class, even if they benefit their employers. "Mainstream trade economists have insufficiently noticed the drastic change in mean U.S. incomes and in inequalities among different U.S. classes," he wrote.

There's no question that the American people would like their government to take a stand against companies that send jobs overseas. A Zogby International poll found that 71% of Americans believe that outsourcing jobs overseas hurts the U.S. economy, and 62% say the U.S. government should tax or legislate to try to stop the job loss.

Yet virtually nothing has been done. "We need some creative solutions here," says Ron Hira, a public policy professor at the Rochester Institute of Technology who is now on leave at the progressive Economic Policy Institute.

34 Year High School Winning Streak Ends

I have no regrets. It's been a great ride. Now there's going to be a number out there for other schools to shoot at. If they can beat that, all power to them."

With South Dade ahead 32-22 and only one weight class left, the issue was settled. But Cozart had to coax the last wrestler to focus on his own match.

That'd be Joey Cozart. "Let's win the last one," disappointed father said to crushed son.

Joey Cozart pinned his opponent in just over 100 seconds. Talk about your hollow victories.

"I was dying on the inside," Joey said, "But I couldn't show it."

Many of Brandon faithful stood around afterward, holding something of a wake. Fathers and sons and brothers have carried the streak. This was a family loss.

"What this streak has done for this town and this school," Cozart said, "is give it a cornerstone, a gem, a diamond to look at and to hold up.

County bids farewell to Miller

I have no regrets in how I conducted myself as minority commissioner, she said. I am fully aware that some of my actions were not the politically expedient thing to do.

Historic preservation ranked at the top of her list. During her four terms, the county preserved about 18,000 acres of open space. She spearheaded the restoration of original county deeds and arranged for the return of the bell that hung in the steeples of the original county courthouses from 1813 to 1960.

Miller, who was appointed when the county was facing the final downsizing of USX Corp. and the closure of the Naval Air Warfare Center in Warminster, also said she was proud of instituting the hotel tax to fund tourism.

At the same time, Miller voted for budgets that included tax increases and approved GOP appointments to boards and authorities.
